WasteZero AutoRoute communities combine the environmental and financial benefits of WasteZero Trash Metering with the remarkable efficiency of automated collection. With WasteZero AutoRoute, households place their official municipal trash metering bags in city-issued automated refuse collection carts, which are simply rolled out to the curb on designated trash collection days. Garbage trucks outfitted with hydraulic arms do the rest of the work.
The trucks are commonly equipped with a four-camera system and bright LED lights. The right-hand camera shows operators a view of the cart as it is gripped for dumping. A hopper camera spots unacceptable refuse. The other two cameras offer visibility while driving forward or backing up.
The U.S. EPA recently praised the WasteZero AutoRoute System in Middletown, RI, as a model automated Trash Metering program. "[Middletown] residents put their special colored trash bags in the automated container and the driver, one man on the truck, picks up the container, dumps it into the truck, and through a camera that he has in the cab of his truck, he’s able to look at the colored bags as they go in. And, if someone has not complied, he writes down their address and then they get a warning or a fine."
WasteZero Trash Metering with AutoRoute makes trash collection more economical, safer and cleaner. Costs are also reduced by preventing injury to DPW workers by heavy lifting and riding on the back of trucks. Public safety increases since the trash and trash containers are easier to manage and less likely to protrude into pathways. Public health is protected by keeping trash away from animals.
