Experienced Bag Line/Converting Operators

Summary

Operates bag machine to produce quality bags in a safe and timely manner.  Performs both quality inspections and press side management.  Routinely completes first piece inspections, shift reports, work orders and complete ink viscosity checks.

Key Relationships

o   Reports directly to the appropriate Shift Manager

o   The Shift Manager will manage a team of up to six bag line operators

o   Commonly interacts with technical managers, Shift Managers and Maintenance Manager

 

Major Responsibilities

o   Safety

o   Ensures proper LOTO (Lock Out Tag Out) procedures are being followed as directed by Safety Committee

o   Reports any safety, quality or mechanical/technical issues to Shift Manager

o   Shift Requirements

o   Performs Quality Audits every hour and enters results into computer quality program.

o   Checks Ink Viscosity every hour. Records on Ink Viscosity Checklist and submits to Technical Manager on a daily basis.

o   Records scrap weight on shift report on a daily basis

o   Assists other operators with order changes to facilitate order changes made in a timely manner

o   Ensures machine is running the optimum speed while ensuring safety, quality and efficiency

o   Ensures that finished goods and WIP tags are entered correctly in computer system

o   Prepares for upcoming order and/or roll changes

o   Other duties as required by management team

o   Maintenance

o   Performs minor maintenance on the machine such as but not limited to: changing hole punch dies, lubrication, cleaning rollers, etc.

o   Assists maintenance and technical manager with monthly preventative maintenance on machines

 

Job Requirements/Preferences

Required

o   High School Diploma

o   3 or more years of manufacturing experience

o   Strong mechanical aptitude

o   Ability to work independently without much supervision

o   Ability to work well with others

o   Ability to comply with strict attendance policy

o   Oriented towards achieving high productivity and quality goals

o   Minimum score of 4 on the following WIN Skill Assessments

o   Reading for Information

o   Applied Mathematics

o   Locating Information

 

Preferred

o   Technical or vocational degree

o   Plastics manufacturing experience

o   Supervisory or team leadership experience

 

Key Performance Indicators

o   No safety or quality issues

o   Depending upon the machine they are running – efficiency between 35% and 42%

o   Quality audit frequency below 60

o   Waste below 6%

o   Recording first piece inspection shift reports and work orders correctly

o   Able to perform minor maintenance on machine

o   Able to complete order changes in a timely and efficient manner

Special Position Requirements

o   Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs.

o   Ability to work 12-hour shifts, including nights and weekends
